A global game
Ice Hockey is a game synonymous the world over with exhilarating speed, exacting technique, and exemplary teamwork.
Although the sport’s traditional centres of gravity are undoubtedly to be found in the traditional winter-sport nations of Europe and North America, ice hockey has been a continuous feature of the Australian sports landscape since 1906.
- At present we have 6250+ registered players, coaches & officials in Australia
- Learn to play (L2P) programs are run by every state association and can be tailored for individuals learning to skate for the first time
- Experienced players participate in pathway programs and established state, national and international competitions
- Until the age of 14, boys and girls play ‘no body-checking’ ice hockey
- After the age of 14, players can progress into a competitive stream which includes body checking, or can participate in a recreational stream with no body checking
Get the puck rolling
New players become eligible via a simple registration and membership initiated at ‘grassrinks’ level.
- In Australia, clubs are recognised by and affiliated with the sport’s Member Associations (MAs). These MAs come together at a national level to help inform IHA
- New players typically first receive an invitation from a properly recognised and affiliated club or through the member association.
- Each club’s Member Association is responsible for providing new players with the necessary links and resources to initiate membership – a process overseen by IHA in partnership with eSportsdesk (ESD)
- For junior players, a new ESD account can be linked to a parent’s account, allowing parents to oversee and manage the registration process
