Ice Hockey Australia update: Player Safety – Supplemental Information – Neck Guards
Ice Hockey Australia wishes to provide additional information to members regarding the introduction of mandatory neck guards starting this season.
1. Neck guards are currently being mandated for all players, including goaltenders, and will be required for all on ice activities (games and training). On-ice officials and coaches on the ice are encouraged to wear neck guards but are not mandated to wear them at this time.
2. Neck guards must be designed for the purpose of preventing neck laceration in ice hockey and must cover as much of the neck as possible. For goaltenders, a “dangler” attached to a mask is not acceptable for neck laceration protection.
