Inaugural Youth Trans-Tasman Ice Hockey Series Announced

Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) and the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation (NZIHF) are proud to announce the inaugural Youth Trans-Tasman Ice Hockey Series (boys), to be held at IceHQ in Melbourne, Australia, from October 10 to 12, 2025. This exciting new initiative underpins the strong and respectful relationship between the two nations and their shared commitment to fostering talent and advancing ice hockey in the region.

The series will feature three teams: two representing Australia and one representing New Zealand. Each team will be composed of 15 skaters and 2 goaltenders, selected from their respective national championships in July 2025. Eligible male players will be born in 2010 and 2011, providing a platform for young athletes to transition from emerging talent into the Talent Identification (TID) phase of their development.

This landmark event represents a significant step in national player development, emphasising growth opportunities for players, coaches, and support staff alike. It aligns with the strategic goals of both IHA and NZIHF to nurture the next generation of ice hockey talent while strengthening ties between the two nations.

The Youth Trans-Tasman Ice Hockey Series joins the growing roster of collaborative efforts between Australia and New Zealand, alongside the existing Men’s Trans-Tasman Series and the newly introduced Women’s Trans-Tasman Series, which took place for the first time in October 2025, Newcastle, Australia.
