International Ice Hockey Federation to Host Learn to Play Seminar in Melbourne

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) will be visiting our region this May, coinciding with the Women's IIB World Championships in New Zealand. In collaboration with Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) and Ice Hockey Victoria (IHV), the IIHF will host a Learn to Play Seminar at O’Brien Icehouse in Melbourne from May 2–4, 2025.

This exciting opportunity is open to all 'Learn to Play' level coaches, team managers, player development officials, and State and Club representatives. Participants will gain access to the latest curriculum, educational resources, and coaching techniques provided by the IIHF to enhance their ice hockey programs.

Event Schedule:

  • Welcome Event: Friday, 2 May (evening) – O’Brien Icehouse

  • Learn to Play Seminar: Saturday, 3 May, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM (Lunch included) – O’Brien Icehouse

  • Learn to Play Seminar (On-Ice Component): Sunday, 4 May, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Lunch included) – O’Brien Icehouse

Three leading IIHF development experts will lead the seminar alongside IHA’s Player Development staff:

  • Kalle Valiaho – IIHF Development Director

  • Tim Serratore – IIHF Development Instructor (Americas & Oceania)

  • Marko Valencic – IIHF Development Instructor

  • Andrew Erzen – IHA Player Development Coordinator

  • Jeff Fode – IHA Player Development

Beyond skill development, this seminar offers a unique chance to network with other coaches, officials, and IIHF specialists to further develop ice hockey at all levels in Australia.
