Cancellation of National Championships 2021

Published Sun 15 Aug 2021

Over the past 6 months, Ice Hockey Australia has had numerous meetings with our State Members and Presidents to try and find a way to run our national championships in this ongoing COVID-19 environment.

Last night another meeting was held where five of our State Members made the difficult decision that they are not able to participate this year, due to extended lockdowns in some states and uncertainty surrounding travel within Australia.

Unfortunately, this means that no championships will be held this year.

It is regretful that this situation continues to cause disruption to our championship program and we understand there will be many disappointed by the decision. It is important that we respect and support our State Members as concerns about safety, financial risks for teams, and the extreme uncertainty for travel have informed their decisions.

Nevertheless, over the coming weeks, we will continue to work with our Portfolio Directors and State Members to investigate alternative programs that will hopefully substitute some of the learning experiences associated with national championships.

Ice Hockey Australia will also continue to do all we can to ensure that we can run all national championships in 2022.

Kind regards,
