2025 IIHF ICE HOCKEY AUSTRALIA U18 & U20 MEN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST – ICE HOCKEY AUSTRALIA NATIONAL MEN’S U18 & U20 TEAM

Ice Hockey Australia is calling for nominations for its National Men’s U18 & U20 Teams to represent Australia at World Championships in 2025.

We are seeking dedicated and skilled athletes who are ready to excel at the highest level of competition and represent our country with distinction. This championship presents an unparalleled opportunity for elite players to showcase their talent on an international stage.

All eligible players with the ability, drive, and commitment to represent Australia at the highest level in Men’s Ice Hockey are encouraged to apply.

 U18 Men Tournament Details: 

  • 8 March: Depart for Italy
  • 8-14 March: Training Camp
  • 17-23 March: Tournament
  • 24 March: Depart for Australia
  • 26 March: Arrive Australia

U20 Men Tournament Details:

  • 10 January: Depart for Italy
  • 10-16 January: Training Camp
  • 17 January: Travel to Belgrade
  • 19-25 January: Tournament
  • 26 January: Depart for Australia
  • 28 January: Arrive Australia

 Essential IHA Selection Criteria:

  • Must be a registered member of IHA and/or comply with the Eligibility Requirements of the International Ice Hockey Federation
  • Must have a valid Australian passport (in process is valid as long as the passport is obtained three (3) months prior to Departure date).
  • Must be no younger than fifteen (15) and no older than eighteen (18) and/or twenty (20) by 31st December 2025*.
    • Dependant on team and/or eligibility as per regulations, especially players with multiple citizenships. Details here

 *No under-age waiver is permitted as per IIHF Official Rule Book.

Commitment:

  • Selected players must commit to all pre-departure fitness, skill and conditioning programs as set by the coaching and performance staff
  • All players must be fully compliant with requested reporting, paperwork, team meetings and any other off-ice performance requirements as requested or set by the Coach, Medical Staff, Team Manager or IHA.

Costs  

  • The World Championship program cost is estimated to be approximately $4500 - $5500 for each player. This includes all flights, accommodation, and ground transport.

 (NOTE: this does not include equipment, extra snacks or spending money, which will be at the player’s expense).

  • Players are encouraged to apply for State and Local government and other eligible individual sporting grants to assist with the offset of these costs.
  • Your team manager will discuss grants and donations through Australian Sports Foundation

Selection:

  • Selection of the National Men’s U18 & U20 is via this application and by a panel consisting of but not limited to the Head Coach and Assistant Coach, and potential IHA High Performance accredited coach.
